In the summer of 2006, a broad-based, non-violent, popular uprising exploded in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. Some compared it to the Paris Commune, while others called it
the first Latin American revolution of the 21st century.


But it was the people’s use of the media
that truly made history in Oaxaca.


A 90-minute documentary, A Little Bit of So Much Truth captures the unprecedented media phenomenon that emerged when tens of thousands of school teachers, housewives, indigenous communities, health workers, farmers, and students took 14 radio stations and one TV station into their own hands, using them to organize, mobilize, and ultimately defend their grassroots struggle
for social, cultural, and economic justice.


Filmmaker, Jill Freidberg, had already spent two years in Oaxaca, producing her previous film, Granito de Arena. She returned to Oaxaca, in 2006, and joined forces with Oaxacan media collective, Mal de Ojo TV, to tell the story of the people who put their lives on the line to give a voice to their struggle. Narrated almost entirely with recordings from the occupied media outlets, A Little Bit of So Much Truth delivers a breathtaking, intimate account of the
revolution that WAS televised.

"At first I found this a challenging project, working with a musical heritage I wasn't totaly familiar with. Bachir Attar and I talked about this music, which came from Persia to Morocco but wich I feel also has a direct connection with Indian music. I recorded the musicians performing in Jajouka over several nights, keeping the technology to a minimum so they would feel relaxed and their music flow naturally. Then Bachir came to London to work in my studio. Here we tried to capture the energy of the moment while, at the same time, taking the freedom to take the music further without taking away the spirit. I've never imagined the music would come out like this, but it works, and I feel we've achieved a great record."

Mexican Latin rap group Control Machete burst into the local rock and rap scene in the mid-'80s, making its debut with the release of Mucho Barato in July of 1997. Led by Fermøn IV, Pato (later Patricio Ch. Elizalde), and Toy Kenobi (Toy Hernβndez), the band returned in March of 1999 with Artilleria Pesada, produced by Antonio Hernβndez and Jason Roberts. In addition, Fermøn IV recorded a song alongside Cypress Hill called "Siempre Peligroso," which was featured on the album Grandes Exitos en Espa±ol. He also participated in Chris Vrenna's project Tweaker and played with Los Angeles-based hip-hop act OMD. The long parade of outside work may have caused his exit from the band, just after his 2002 solo debut Boomerang. The rest of the band returned in 2003 with a new direction and a new record, Uno, Dos: Bandera.
